Book a phone consultation about your roof

Choose a time in the calendar below. The call is a conversation about your building and what you can see on the roof, so having a few details ready helps. If you need someone to look at the roof in person, use the in-home option instead.

Details to have ready

  • Address, and whether the building is a house, a townhouse, a flat-roof apartment, a condo or co-op, or a commercial property.
  • Floors above ground. The county uses three as the line between its residential and commercial permit types.
  • The room or ceiling where water appears, and the weather when it does.
  • The name of any board, manager or landlord who has to sign off on roof work.
  • Any sign that the street or building is on the county historic list.
  • Ground-level photos of the roof edge and any stains inside.

The Arlington roofing guide explains the county rules behind these questions, and the services page sorts common situations by building and problem.

Phone call or in-home visit

Phone call

A conversation about the building, what you can see and which documents apply to your address. It works well when you are comparing options, working out who must approve, or deciding what to ask for in writing.

In-home consultation

For questions that need someone to look at the property, such as several leak locations, a flat roof with standing water, or storm damage. Use the in-home booking page.

Questions people ask

What should I have ready for the call?

The street address, whether the building is a house, townhouse, apartment, condo or commercial building, how many stories it has, and where you see a problem. Say whether an association or landlord has to approve roof work, and whether your address might be in a local historic district. Photos taken from the ground help.

Do I need to go on the roof?

No. Photos from the ground and a description of what you see inside, such as a stain on a ceiling or wall, are enough to start the conversation. Please do not climb onto a roof for a phone call.

What if I am not sure whether I need a repair or a replacement?

That is a normal place to start. Say where water shows and what you have noticed. The repair and replacement pages on this site explain how each is scoped, and a written scope is how either one is spelled out.

Can a phone call tell me what the county or my association requires?

The call can point you to the documents that decide it, such as the county permit table, the historic district list or your association papers. The county and your association make the final decision, so confirm with them for your address.

When is the in-home option the better choice?

When the question needs someone to see the roof or the building, such as several leak locations, a flat roof with ponding, or damage after a storm. A phone call cannot see the roof, so the in-home option exists for those cases.
